If You List It,They Will Bid (3/21)

Since it is spring and the weather here is sunny and bright,I’ve been listing more warm weather items. I didn’t know if it was too early in the season to do so,and not having a year of selling under my belt,I’m not sure when’s the “right time”to transition but I gave it a shot.

Now,I know that some of you are still getting snow and are wondering if you will ever be able to pack away the coats and rain boots, but apparently there are bidders that are ready for lighter options in the wardrobe department.

Introducing –Taffeta &Twill

I’ve been working hard to get my Etsy &eBay venues up and running. There’s still a lot to be done, especially on the Etsy site, but they’re at a point which I couldn’t hold off on sharing any longer! This has been such a fun learning project. I’m still figuring a lot of things out. Any ideas from more experienced sellers would be greatly appreciated.

So,without futher ado, please go take a look at my new stores:

Taffeta &Twill –Etsy

Taffeta &Twill –eBay

And watch for a very limited supply of spring trench coats in my eBay store next week!

Dressing Little Bitsy

It is so fun again to have a baby girl to dress. I just love the great assortment of dresses and feminine pretties I find for the girls. Today at our favorite thrift store,I found this linen shift dress for Tirzah. Don’t you love the red embroidery!

babyGap $1.50

If you list it,they will bid…

When my favorite resale shop stopped taking consignment,I needed to quickly find a place for all of the items I had saved up for my next drop-off at the store! Of course I didn’t want to keep them, that’s why I had them ready to go in the first place, and I’ve had very mixed results with consignment in the past,so I was reluctant to search for another venue. Over the years,I’ve had friends and acquaintances suggest I try eBaying. For some reason, namely that it looked like tons of work and I was scared of the fees,I never tried it.

About the time my venue for consignment fell through,Selena, from Apron Thrift Girl posted a ReSelling Challenge. It ran all through the month of February and I decided to take her up on it and challenge myself to clear out the inventory I had on hand and see if eBay was really worth my time.

WOW! Let me just say it’s been an amazing experience. The learning curve was steep, but after a month of a few errors and some hair pulling,my listings are doing well and I’m selling items for FAR MORE than if I had tried consigning or selling outright at a yard sale.

This spring I plan to blog about some of the best tools, blogs and advice I’ve received to help any of you readers that might want to give eBaying a try. It CAN be done,it DOESN’T have to be hard and it can be very REWARDING. My goal this year is to help John replenish our savings and prepare for a down-payment on a home here in Louisiana, complete with a little space for my eBay business. :)

Here are a few highlights just from the past few weeks’sales:

Designer Billy Blues Dark Denim Boho Tall Skirt 6 NWOT

Bought for $1.00 / Sold for $29.99

Ocean Pacific Child’s Shorty Wetsuit Sz 5 Back-zip NWOT

Bought for $.50 / Sold for $19.99

Sofft Black Leather Women’s Heel Shoe Pump Boot 8.5 M

Mary Jane

Mary Janes remain one of my favorite styles of shoes, especially for my daughters. There’s just an air of vintage sweetness that I love. Plus they stay on their little feet so much better than slip-ons or slides. I picked up this pair of Robeez Tredz while out thrifting on Wednesday.

These will fit Tirzah in a year or so. Red Leather edged in Black Velvet in perfect condition for $2. I’m so thankful for thrifting!

Anthropologie Thrift Find

Yard sale season is just starting back up here. The weather is feeling like spring and bulbs are popping up. I attempted our first yard sale stop today. In the future I’m thinking I will try to avoid taking all three littles with me until Tirzah gets a bit bigger. We did find a few items and my favorite, and one I’ve been looking for for a year or so is this beauty:

Anthropologie Kitchen Scale,NWT!

$2

It has a range from 0-10lbs and a nice removable stainless steel bowl which can easily be rinsed.

(mine is Aqua colored, but I couldn’t find a pic online, nor did I take a pic)And I found a few things to stick into my new Etsy shop which I will explain more in another post.

Pressing Onward….

“They”say that you shouldn’t combine major life stresses in a short time frame –well,we’ve certainly not heeded that. Over the last year we’ve had job loss,a cross-country move,a new job &community and a difficult early pregnancy.

The beginning of this new year found us waiting for our overdue baby, finally receiving an offer on the home we left in Oregon that’s been on the market for 9 months and us living in a small rental with the majority of our belongings still in storage. I am convinced that life is full of mixed blessings.

We rejoiced at the birth of Tirzah Mae and yet,it’s been a very stressful &challenging first month for me learning to care and parent three little people all with very different needs and demands –all at the same time!

We rejoiced at the offer on our house, only to receive word after the appraisal came back that it was tens of thousands less than what we owed (and nearly a hundred thousand less than when we bought it,almost 5 years ago!). So to sell our home and keep our good credit,we have used our savings which means….continuing to live out of boxes and starting again to save for a down-payment.

It is very easy to get disheartened, and I have been, but clinging to these words brings me hope:

Jeremiah 29:11-13 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD,plans for good and not for evil,to give you a future and a hope.

And again I remember this verse:

Psalms 27:14 Wait on the LORD:be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart:wait,I say,on the LORD.

So,we wait for now.  :)
